How to translate WhatsApp voice notes
A voice note from your landlord in Portuguese, a client in Spanish or family in French. If you don't speak the language, listening isn't enough. There are two ways to understand what was said.
1. By hand: transcribe, then translate
- Transcribe the voice note with WhatsApp's own feature (we explain how in How to transcribe WhatsApp voice notes).
- Copy the text.
- Paste it into a translator, such as Google Translate or DeepL.
- Read the translation.
It works, but it's four steps per voice note. There's also a catch: WhatsApp's transcripts use the language chosen in settings. For a voice note in another language, you may have to change that setting before transcribing, then change it back.
2. Automatically: with MemoIA

One tip
Machine translation is very good at getting the meaning across, but it can get names, numbers and dates wrong. When they matter, check the original text, which always comes at the end of the reply.
